The Milwaukee 2498-25 M12 Cordless Lithium Ion 5-Tool Combo 1.5Ah Kit is a cordless power tool combo kit built for tradespeople and serious DIY users who need a compact setup that covers the basics without wasting space in the van or on the bench. This is a 5-tool cordless combo kit designed for drilling, fastening, cutting, service work, and general jobsite tasks. Model Number: 2498-25. If you want to get into the Milwaukee M12 platform with a practical group of tools instead of filler pieces, this is the kind of kit that makes sense.
What makes this kit useful is the spread of tools Milwaukee chose. You get a 3/8 inch drill driver for boring and screwdriving, a 1/4 inch hex impact driver for faster fastening, a Hackzall reciprocating saw for tight-space cutting, a 3/8 inch cordless ratchet for mechanical work, and a work light for low-light access. That covers a lot of real-world jobs without forcing you to buy each tool one at a time. For service techs, maintenance crews, electricians, plumbers, remodelers, and homeowners who actually use their tools, that range matters more than a padded tool count.
The individual tool specs are solid where they need to be. The M12 drill driver delivers up to 275 in-lbs of peak torque with a 2-speed gearbox rated at 0 to 400 RPM and 0 to 1,500 RPM, plus an 18-position clutch for better control on smaller fasteners. The M12 impact driver pushes up to 1,000 in-lbs of peak torque with 0 to 2,500 RPM and 0 to 3,300 impacts per minute, which is the kind of output that speeds up repetitive fastening work compared to a drill driver. The Hackzall runs up to 3,000 strokes per minute and measures 11 inches long, which is exactly why this style of saw works well when a full-size reciprocating saw is overkill.
The ratchet is one of the reasons this combo stands out from basic homeowner kits. Milwaukee includes the M12 3/8 inch cordless ratchet with up to 35 ft-lbs of max torque and 0 to 250 RPM. For automotive, maintenance, and equipment work, that saves a lot of wrist time on repetitive bolt removal and run-down tasks. Add in the compact head profile and manual ratcheting capability, and it becomes a tool you will actually keep reaching for. The work light is simple, but useful, with a 90-degree rotating head and integrated magnet for hands-free placement.
From a design standpoint, this kit is about compact size and access. The drill driver is listed at 7.38 inches long, the impact driver at 6.5 inches long, and the ratchet at 10.75 inches long with a 0.75 inch head profile. Those numbers matter because they translate directly into working between studs, under sinks, inside cabinets, behind equipment, and in engine compartments where larger cordless tools get awkward fast. Milwaukee also calls out rubber overmold grips, onboard LED lights on the core tools, battery gauges, and belt clips where relevant, which all help on actual jobs instead of in brochure copy.
Battery platform matters too, and this kit is part of the Milwaukee M12 system. The included tools fit all M12 batteries, and the kit comes with two M12 REDLITHIUM CP1.5 battery packs plus an M12 charger. That gives you a working entry point into the platform right out of the box, and it also means you are not locked into just these five tools. If you already run M12 gear, this kit expands what you can do. If you are starting fresh, it gives you a clean path into one of Milwaukee's most established compact cordless systems.
Who should buy it? This kit makes the most sense for techs and trades that value compact cordless tools over maximum size and raw runtime. It is a smart fit for HVAC service, electrical trim-out, plumbing repairs, automotive work, remodeling punch lists, property maintenance, and general contractor service calls. If your work is mostly overhead, in finished spaces, or in tight areas, the smaller M12 form factor is a real advantage. If you need heavy framing, large hole saw work all day, or demolition-first power, you would step up to a larger platform. For compact cordless versatility, though, this kit covers a lot of ground.
